Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief, Senator Siraj-ul-Haq has called for the utilisation of the foreign assistance of Rs 910 million the rehabilitation of the earthquake affected people in the country as soon as possible. He has urged federal and provincial governments for guaranteeing support to homeless people in the chilly weather.

He expressed these views while inaugurating tree plantation in his ancestral area at Samarbagh on Monday. The JI chief launched the plantation campaign through planting a sapling. Those present on the occasion were included MPA-elect Aizazul Mulk Afkari, Tehsil Nazim, Saeed Bacha, officials of Forest Department and a large number of local elders.

The JI chief said that due to the lack of the attention of federal government, the people of the area are facing severe problems, saying delay in the notification of the election of Aizazul Mulk in the by-election is depriving the people of representation in provincial assembly. However, he was hopeful that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will issue notification on next hearing of the case. He said that the recent earthquakes had played havoc in Dir and Chitral and the volunteers of the JI and Al-Khidmat Foundation have extended full support to their affected brethren.

He said that people inside and outside Pakistan extended full cooperation in the provision of assistance to the earthquake affected people. He said that donor agencies have provided an assistance of Rs 910 million, but due to the traditional slow procedure it could not reach to homeless people and there are also the chances of the lapsing of the fund.
